Jane Flying-Head is a print of an original mix media artwork.
Third made in the series Women Cultures Around the World. Showcasing important aspects of women’s cultures such as hair style, jewelry, clothing, mythology/ folklore, art and theatre, etc.For this work I stuck to the tribes in the Great Lakes region; Seneca, Shawnee, Wyandot, and Iroquois people.
The stories and mythology I pulled from is the Great Flying head and the Rolling head which is why her head is not attached to her body. With her hair lose and flowing around her body. For her body, it is preforming a Smoke dance which is still preformed to this day at powwows. Wearing traditional skirt, underpants, and over shirt. The bead work design is called the celestial sky that is on the skirt, beaded collar and braces. Along with flower designs popping up through the design. The colors of her clothes was actually quite common for the time and area before colonization that I could find.
Each work I do something that covers part of the face. For this work I did the red hand print in show of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous women. I also chose orange for the background color for the children that was lost and taken.
This work is a Giclee Fine Art print on heavy paper.
Size is 12” by 16” inchesSigned and titled.
